W. T. POWERS.

A Wealthy New Yorker, Buys Hamburg for $60,000.

Louisville, Ky., Dec. 11.—Billy Lakeland, the celebrated trainer, Saturday morning closed a deal for Hamburg, John Madden's grand two-year-old, by Hanover—Lady Reel, and the colt will in future wear the colors of W. T. Powers, a wealthy New Yorker. When seen Saturday morning Lakeland admitted having bought the colt, but declined to state the price paid. It is understood from authentic sources, however, that it was $60,000, the biggest price ever paid for a thoroughbred, with the exception of St. Blaise, who brought $100,000. Lakeland and Madden went out to Churchill Downs Saturday morning and looked Hamburg over and the great trainer expressed himself as being perfectly well pleased with his purchase.
