AS IT SHOULD BE. - We were much pleased to notice yesterday that coolie labor had been dispensed with on Front street. We found there sixty white men busily engaged in the work with their picks and shovels. These men receive $2 per day for their work, amounting in all to $120 per day. A large portion of this is spent in the city. Our merchants and hotel keepers, of course, receiving their share. Some of these will undoubtedly save a portion of their earnings and eventually buy a lot in town and put up a dwelling, or invest it in land, and in the course of time, hew a farm out of the wilderness. Could we say as much for the Mongolians? The simple asking of the question is the answer. There was one fact we noticed particularly, and which we are happy to mention, that among the same number, a more industrious, sober and intelligent lot of working men than they can not be found in any place.
