In Testimony of their Gratitude
For his eminent Services,
In the Command of their Forces,
On the Coast of Coromandel.
From the Year 1746, to the Year 1766.
The Design partly explained by this Epigraph: it is a Figure with proper Attributes, representing the East India Company, pointing to a Bust of the General, and directing Fame to record those Actions, which have induced her to honour his Memory in this public Manner: Fame, receiving her Trumpet, has engraved the following Words on a Shield:

Fortress erected,
Settlements extended,

Defeated,
And Peace concluded
In the Carnatic.
In the Centre is a View of Trichinopoly, in Base Relievo, the principal Seat of War at that Period: and at the Feet of the Company, Trophies and Standards of the French, Marattas, and Mysoreans. The Epitaph is wrote by Mr. Orme, and the Sculpture by Mr. Tyler.
