MARK SMITH THE MAN
Col. Greene Warns Arizonans Against
Electing a Republican Delegate.
"If Arizona fails to return Delegate Smith to congress it will make a mistake it will take years to repair, especially now there is a possibility of the territory being admitted as a single state."
Colonel W. C. Greene, who arrived in Phoenix this morning with Colonel Epes Randolph, B. A. Peckard and Frank L. Proctor, said that he considered this the most important statement he had to make to the people of Phoenix.
"I would fear for Arizona's welfare if we had a Republican in the next congress. There is still and always will be danger of joint statehood, and nothing would bring it quicker than a Republican delegate in congress who would be forced into line, as Delegate Andrews of New Mexico was in the last session," he continued.
Colonel Greene is much improved in health. When he left the territory several months ago for a trip of rest and relief from business cares to visit Japan and China, he was seriously feeling the effects of years of hard persistent work.—Phoenix Democrat.
