READ! -- The Providence Rhode Island Herald, in regard to the whig outcry for a protective Tariff, says:
"We need hardly say that the men who stand at the head of this protective movement are hypocrites. While they are pretending that a higher tariff on cotton and woollen manufacturers is necessary, they are constantly investing more money in cotton and woolen mills, and launching deeper into the very business which they declare has been rendered ruinous by the adoption of the Democratic policy.
Thus Mr Sprague and Mr Harris, and their co-laborers for protection in this State, withdraw not a cent of their manufacturing capital, but are actually at this moment erecting more factories in which they propose to manufacture the very articles which they would have us believe have been driven from the market by foreign competition."
