Full Text
Tuesday morning, last week, five men belonging to this town went out of the harbour to catch fish; but in returning, by attempting to recross the bar, the boat was overset, and four of the unfortunate persons were drowned—The other, after remaining in the water about 15 minutes, was taken up in a boat which then happened to be in sight.—The deceased have all left wives and children, in indigent circumstances, to lament their untimely fate.
One very remarkable circumstance which deserves to be noticed, is—The boat out of which the above-mentioned poor men lost their lives, drifted to sea, and two or three days after was met with by a boat's crew belonging to Hampton, just at the time when they supposed themselves launching into eternity, by reason of a leak in their boat, which they in vain endeavoured to stop; and, being fatigued, had given themselves for lost, when the other boat came in sight, which they soon discharged of its water, and therein arrived safe to land.
