CONTROL BOARD
By CPL. FRED COUNSEL
Hail, Greetings and Welcome to the new 162nd AAF Base Unit (Fighter Control). May its history equal the colorful accomplishments of the 93rd!
This change has brought about a new high in letter writing. The mail boxes were crammed with epistles, the contents containing in part the notification of the change of address.
Through the facilities and untiring cooperation of the 162nd Craft-room, the PX has undergone a glorious transformation. The plain somewhat drab atmosphere has been replaced with the vividness and brightness of gay stripes. It is now truly a desirable rendezvous for G.I. shoppers. The hot dog sales have soared, claims Sgt. Stoller.
We are wondering what caused this. Could it be Sgt. Stoller's masterful preparation of the "doggie delight" or was it the Weeny Mural and the EM's appreciation of "ART"?
Realism is the thought of Yours Truly for this week. Yep, F.C. is pioneering in the non-coms turn at K.P. If anyone says that we are Kitchen Polishing under the 1st Sergeant's orders...don't believe it! It's only the quest and urge for gathering material and ideas or as I may put it, a "spud's eye-view" of messing. (Oh, yeah!)
The "incarceration of 1043" has temporarily terminated the "affairs" of "Casanova" Benkowski. Oh, his rank is Private, (so is his affair). He proudly caresses the red lock of hair from "Miss Carrot top" of Hartford. No doubt there is something missing in her life... in your absence.
The construction of a Sanitation Area by the Medics is in progress. The demonstration and educational program will be interesting when Cpl. Bailey adds his "sunshine" to his instruction.
Days and weeks of preparation are necessary to make a successful fishing trip. S/Sgt. Lenghart of Special-Services made the necessary plans, sorted out his brilliant display of colorful tackle, tied his line and polished his rod and a week-end pass, assured as happy a day as any angler could appreciate.
For some reason the Sergeant's appearance is now of the "Sad Sack" type. It is rumored that the fish bit well, but big and little ones got away. Has Mother Nature something that the modern science of tackling and lure has not fathomed?
We share this week of celebration with the Wacs of Bradley. May they continue their services and enjoy their stay at Bradley whose "Spirit" they are truly a part of!
Sgt. Bill Thrasher of 1042 and several of his buddies are now full-fledged "Camoufleurs," after spending a week of studying and cramming at Mitchel Field. The barracks is now a bedlam of theories and spontaneous argument regarding concealment. We can now rest assured that it will be much more difficult to find our equipment. Even now, though, Bill can't hide his love for that someone in Philadelphia.
