There was a destructive fire in Staunton, on Wednesday night last, which originated in the stables of the old Wayne Tavern. The Tavern house, and some five or six wooden buildings adjoining were consumed. The "old Wayne" is not used as a tavern, but was filled with lodgers at the time of the fire, in consequence of the number of strangers in attendance on the Synod of Virginia, then in session at Staunton. Sixteen Horses, mostly belonging to Ministers of the Presbyterian Church were destroyed in the Stables.
