Featuring three well-proportioned bedrooms, this house of contemporary design is narrow enough for a 50-foot lot, even with a side driveway and detached garage. It is Plan No. 755 of Walter T. Anicka, architect, of 617 Forest Avenue, Ann Arbor, Mich.
The "L"-shaped combined living and dining room is designed so that it may be merged with an outdoor living area in the rear yard. Large living room windows, which help to carry out this idea, may be screened with a fence or hedge for privacy.
Bedrooms are arranged so that the sleeping area can be closed off from the remainder of the house.
The architect specifies hardwood plywood with face veneers for built-in vanities in each bedroom, and also for sliding doors of wardrobe-type closets. Hardwood veneers lend a distinctive tone and are easily maintained.
Center of the work area is a streamlined kitchen, with a breakfast alcove and service room at either side. The service room contains a laundry, extra lavatory, clothes closet and stairway to the basement. Full or partial basement is optional.
The plan is 33 feet wide and 48 feet deep and may be placed with either dimension facing the street. It contains 1,337 square feet of floor space, a useful figure in computing local building costs.
Protected by a roof of fire-resistant asphalt shingles in a contrasting color, the house will look equally attractive with either vertical or horizontal siding. Asphalt shingles are manufactured in a wide range of colors and blends, making it easy to select a suitable hue or blend.
