Full Text

Continental Monthly for February is
and presents an attractive table of
contents. It contains articles by Ex-Gov. Boutwell,

Horace Greeley, A. Oakey Hall, Richard
H. Kendall, Rev. F. W. Shelton, Charles G.
Leland, and other distinguished writers. The
opening article of the number, by C. G. Leland,
on "Our War and our Want," is a dashing
and smashing answer to the inquiry, Can
this great Republic of our forefathers exist
with Slavery in it? which is answered with a
most emphatic No. "Our Danger and its
Cause" is contributed by the pen of Ex-Gov.
Boutwell and vigorously urges emancipation
as the best and surest way of reaching any permanent
peace. It is calm, temperate and decided
in its tone, and lays bare, with a masterly
hand, the cause of the rebellion. The other
articles in the number, some political, and many
of literary merit, with snatches of poetry, and
the Editor's Table, make up an unusually interesting
and valuable variety, and commend the
Monthly to the lovers of a literature that is
fully up to the times in which we live.
