"There is great Reason to believe that the Gentleman that went off here on Wednesday last was Mr. Fordyce; he was landed at Cherburg on Thursday Night, and with him a small Trunk, as much as two Men could carry in a Barrow. He was a tall thin Man, marked with the Smallpox; had on a Wig when he came here, but afterwards short curled Hair. His two Servants are returned, and gone this Morning up to London; one of them a young Fellow with light Hair, a chubby Scotch Face, blue Coat, with white Basket Buttons; the other short, an Englishman, short curled Hair, brown Coat, broad Gold Lace Scarlet Waistcoat, between thirty and forty. On examining the Gentleman's Baggage in France, he had many Bundles of Paper tied up with Tape."
