NEW CHURCH AT BISHOPVILLE

Dear Courier: We have our new church building completed and about paid for. We conduct our day services in it, but on account of not being able to provide lighting apparatus we can not hold our usual twice a month night services. How it would cheer the hearts of the struggling, sacrificing saints here if some philanthropic sympathizer would give us our much needed lights. A suitable chandelier could be bought for about seventy-five dollars, but—! Well, we have done all we can for the present, but by grace of God we will continue our efforts until we are again in good shape for our Master's service.

Mr. Courier, I endorse all the many reasons assigned by our many brethren why The Courier should enter every Baptist home in our State, and beg to assign another, it is this: If The Baptist Courier was taken and prayerfully read by every Baptist there would be more uniform and general activity in church attendance and work, and far less susceptibility to such characters as are referred to in the second epistle of John, which so plenteously abound on every hand and are getting in so much of their pernicious work and causing so much confusion and discord among a great many of our New Testament church members. 'Tis sad, but nevertheless true, that from the days of Christ's sojourn in the flesh until to day the poisoned darts of the world, the flesh and the devil have been directed against the church of his establishing. It is alarming to see how adroitly and blandly the "prince of this world" is, apparently, getting in his work, and so many Christians appear not to know that his most effectual tactics is to cause divisions and contentions among them. Destroy "oneness" and hope is gone. Restore and perpetuate it and victory is sure. Let every Baptist prayerfully study the New Testament and keep conversant with our church work by carefully reading The Baptist Courier for one year, and then if he or she does not believe that we are the church of Christ, then quit our way of thinking and doing and teach us the right way. If we are right, why not go on unto victory?

Main Argument

the new church in bishopville needs lighting for night services and appeals for a $75 chandelier donation; every baptist home should subscribe to the baptist courier to promote church unity, activity, and resistance to divisive influences as per the new testament.
