ers Coming.
Phi Mu Alpha, the musical society
which brought musical attractions to
Columbia for several years, has con-
cluded arrangements to bring the
Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra here
for two concerts on Saturday May 17.
This is the fourth time the Minneap-
olis Orchestra has visited Columbia.
In addition to the fifty odd men who
make up the personnel of the orches-
tra, four well known artists are to
appear at the Columbia concerts.
These are:
Emma Noe, soprano;
Harriet McConnell, contralto; Albert
Lindquist, tenor, and Findlay Camp-
bell, baritone.
The Minneapolis Symphony Orches-
tra is the only one of the great Amer-
ican orchestras which has grown to
maturity under the conductor which
formed it. Emil Oberhoffer has been
the conductor of the Minneapolis Sym-
phony Orchestra from its inception
sixteen years ago. It is now consid-
ered one of the greatest symphonic
bodies in the world, due largely to his
work. Mr. Oberhoffer has been called
the "poet-conductor"
Mr. Oberhoffer comes from a musi-
cal family and was born in Munich.
He has had a wide musical experience
as an operatic, choral and orchestral
conductor. He has been in this coun-
try about thirty years.
