ELECTORS OF CUMBERLAND,

You will not lose sight of the election of congressional Representative, which is to take place on Monday next! an election not less important to you than that of state officers—You cannot but consider yourselves as peculiarly fortunate in obtaining the consent of the man universally esteemed by all parties, to be considered a candidate for the office—It is confidently presumed that the

Hon. Ezekiel Whitman,

will unite the suffrages of a large majority of this election district—His well known sincerity and devotedness to his country go far towards authorizing this conclusion— The days of gloom and non-intercourse are returning; the calamities of the embargo are about to revisit the land. Nothing short of the influence of correct principles can avert the evils, that threaten us—You will be extremely cautious, how you place in the national legislature men, whose thirst and ambition for office, will lead them to adopt non intercourse laws, Embargoes and other measures oppressive to poor citizens, for the sake of favor with rulers, who have power to promote them. Mr. Whitman has had your confidence once and has he abused it? Has he not conducted like a faithful man? Can you point to one act that you disapprove? Come forward then one and all and give him your hearty support, continue him in that office of which he is so deserving.
