WOMAN'S CLUB HOLDS FIRST MEETING OF YEAR
The first meeting this season of the Woman's Club was held Thursday evening, Sept. 22 at the home of Mrs. Cecil Howard. Co-hostesses were Mrs. Herb Chase and Mrs. J. S. Jeffries. Thirteen members and four guests attended. The guests were Mrs. Jake Jacobson, Mrs. Grant Gallop, Mrs. Duane Appel and Mrs. L. A. Sitzmann. Mrs. Jacobson won the attendance prize, a basket of cookies, which was given by Mrs. Russell Christensen and Mrs. Cy Stevenson.
Mrs. Lee Burns gave the convention report and Mrs. Marlowe Rink gave a history on Mrs. Carroll Miller's life. Mrs. James Acher gave a reading on mothers.
Mrs. Marlowe Rink sang several songs.
The club decided on selling one pound boxes of candy for a money making project.
The next meeting will be held October 20 at the home of Mrs. Sheldon Connor.
There was no Glacier Park news last week as your reporter went bow and arrow hunting for deer. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Uhl, Ron Johnson from Summit, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Uhl, Jr., and Tiger Kutt from Cut Bank, left Saturday, Sept. 17 for Sweet Grass Hills where they set up camp for a week. Of the six hunters five deer were bagged, which we think is very good for bow and arrow hunters. Two nice bucks were brought home by Mr. and Mrs. Ray Uhl Sr. Ray Uhl Sr. shot the largest buck, a large four pointer. The Ray Uhl Sr.'s and Ray Uhl Jr.'s and Mike are leaving Saturday, Oct. 1 to go town. We hope we will be as successful this trip.
Hubert Dupras is enjoying a three week vacation in Spokane and Portland.
Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Chase went to Bigfork last Tuesday and visited friends.
Mrs. James Van Cleave left for Los Angeles Sept. 22. She will visit her son and family, the Larry Nordstroms.
Mrs. Louise Coleman celebrated four years of residence at the Latch String Lodge, home for the aged, with a trip to Kalispell for dinner, visiting friends and shopping. She and the Tobins stopping at West Glacier for supper with Mrs. Lena O'Neal and her daughter, Letha, from Helena. Mrs. O'Neal operated the Pine Cone Cafe at Brownie's Store location in East Glacier years ago.
There will be a Lutheran Church supper at the community hall at 8 p.m. Oct. 9, sponsored by the Lutheran Church of Cut Bank.
Mrs. Kathy Barcus and Mrs. Bea Burns went to Great Falls last Friday. Kathy attended an Avon meeting, and they also visited the Jim Miners.
Mrs. Irma Hughes is back from her vacation which she spent in Columbia Falls and Missoula.
Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Howard left for Shelby Thursday to spend the winter.
Father Tackes, from Browning, and his father, from Dutton, were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. William Big Springs Tuesday.
Fred Sherburne left for Santa Barbara, California Monday to join his family there. Mr. and Mrs. Duane Appel have moved into the Sherburne home for the winter.
Mrs. Esther Warring and Mary went to Seattle last week for a few days.
Mr. and Mrs. Morris Blake of Hungry Horse spent Tuesday with Mr. and Mrs. George Edkins.
Charles Jennings left Wednesday for his home in Washington, D.C. He spent a week here with his brother, George at the ranch, and visiting with friends.
Mrs. Pete Jacquemart from Shelby is spending a few days with her daughter, Mrs. Kenny Brown, who is ill.
Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Hoefner from Libby are visiting their son and family, the Kenneth Hoefners.
Mr. and Mrs. Goalman White, from Augusta, are house guests of Mr. and Mrs. George Mollander.
Mr. and Mrs. Buzz Lutz and children left Wednesday night for Spokane for a few days.
Master Sgt. J. E. Marquette, Fort Bliss, Texas, spent a few weeks visiting his mother, Mrs. Nancy Marquette.
Mr. and Mrs. Breck Stevenson and family went to Flathead Lake last Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Orin Gage from Shelby, visited their daughter and family, the Gene Jacobsons, last week end.
Mrs. Muggs Hillius and Mrs. Roy Wagner called on the Clarence Munsons last Sunday.
Mrs. Rhody, from Many Glacier spent several days with Mr. and Mrs. Cy Stevenson.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Wall were Cut Bank visitors Monday.
Mr. and Mrs. Ed Stillwell and son, Terry, from Babb, spent the day and had dinner with Mr. and Mrs. Kenny Hoefner last Sunday.
Adolph Anderson left for his home in Los Angeles Wednesday after spending a week with his daughter and family, the Breck Stevensons.
Fred Sherburne had dinner with Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Turvey Saturday night.
Mr. and Mrs. Howard Hammel took Mr. and Mrs. Mark Wilson and Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Jeffries to the Vets Club in Cut Bank for dinner Sunday night.
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Smythe are leaving Sunday to spend a few days in Butte visiting old friends. The Smythes lived in Butte before they moved here.
Dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Cy Stevenson Saturday night, Sept. 24, were Mr. and Mrs. Merle Banning, Mr. and Mrs. O. F. Keller, Mr. H. E. Olson and Miss Isabelle Kerns.
Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Wolf went to Whitefish last Monday and visited Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Gaertner.
