Full Text
The Republican party will be ready to end sectionalism whenever the Democratic party is ready to abandon the principles "for which Lee and Jackson fought for four years," and not a day sooner. In this campaign the Democratic party takes the field with the boast of the 138 votes of the South solid. Those votes cannot be solid save through crime-save through the brazen violation of the principles for which the North fought four years. It is still the old question of which side was right in that four years' fight, and the North is prepared to maintain that its side was, even if that maintenance be "sectionalism."
