The latest figures I've seen indicate there are between 15 and 16 million persons over 65 years of age in the U. S. These aged need more hospital and medical care than the rest of society. Facilities are not available to meet their needs. Even to those of us who anticipated the problem and prepared for the future, the struggle is becoming acute. I retired eight years ago and know by actual experience how the increased cost of living cuts into my limited income, and the need for medical care has hit on the other side. Maintaining a status-quo has become a difficult problem. Most of the 15 million are decidedly worse off than me.

John Knight did grant a liberal enough pension to his employees to alleviate their problem, but it wasn't liberal enough to include me despite my 40 years as an employee of the Akron Newspaper industry.

I haven't heard Bill Ayres suggest any solution to this problem. He's too busy running against Jimmy Hoffa.

With the introduction of automation there will be an increase of unemployment. What program does Bill Ayres have for the absorption of these idle workers? Will he vote for government expenditure to create jobs as we did in the 30's? Will he support a housing bill adequate enough to do away with slums? Heck, no! Bill's platform is "let's get rid of Jimmy Hoffa."

I've some figures showing that we need 140,000 classrooms to bring our school facilities to meet the needs. The problem of the colleges are comparable. Will Bill vote for an expenditure of public funds adequate to give our children the education they deserve? Heck, no! Bill going to spend his time defeating Jimmy Hoffa.

I could enumerate more problems that should get Bill's attention. Civil Rights for second-class citizens, support of better highway, mental health programs on a National scope, and many others.

With the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer, Bill hasn't any concept of how to close the gap between the haves and have-nots. The all-important issue is "Get rid of Jimmy Hoffa."
