Full Text

A Strange Animal.

Last Sunday morning Henry Smith, alias "Cook," while out hunting on Table mountain, in the vicinity of Peppermint Falls, was introduced to a very formidable animal, into whose cat-like carcass he emptied the contents of a double-barreled shotgun. The animal, which had the appearance of a cat, though more powerful and much larger, proved to be a lynx, standing two feet and a half high, measuring three feet from tip to tip, and weighing about thirty pounds. This species of lynx is very scarce in this vicinity, and is said by old settlers to be the first ever seen in this neighborhood.—Sonora Democrat, July 10.
