Senate, January 2.
This day the bill to provide for the trial of suits in the several counties of this state, and to alter, change and abolish, all such parts of the constitution and form of government as relate to the general court and court of appeals, passed the Senate. Yeas 9—Nays 3.
House of Delegates, January 3.
According to order, the house took into consideration the bill to provide for the election of the governor by the people, &c. and after proposing several amendments and going through the bill, the question was put, will the house agree to the bill? Determined in the negative, yeas 20, nays 12.
The question was then put, Shall the bill pass?
The yeas and nays being required appeared as follows:—Yeas 37—Nays 26.
Leave has been given, in the house of delegates to bring in a bill to alter, change and abolish, all such parts of the constitution and form of government as relate to the time and manner of electing the senate, and mode of filling up vacancies in that body.
