Pres. Whitney Attends FDR Memorial Rite

HYDE PARK. N. Y.-President Whitney represented the Brotherhood at impressive ceremonies April 12 at the grave of Franklin D. Roosevelt, the late President who fought so valiantly for humanity and justice during his lifetime.

Other labor leaders paying tribute to Mr. Roosevelt included William Green, president of American Federation of Labor; David Dubinsky, president International Ladies' Garment Workers' Union, and Mrs. Sidney Hillman, wife of the late CIO leader who represented that organization.

Seven wreaths were placed on the grave in the rose garden of the late President's estate. now a national shrine bequeathed by him to the government. One was sent by President Truman: others came from Winston Churchill and Bernard Baruch.

Henry Morgenthau Jr, secretary of treasury under President Roosevelt. and Drew Pearson, the columnist, laid two of the wreaths.

Mrs. Franklin D. Roosevelt was escorted by Mr. Morgenthau, whose wreath was presented in behalf of the Roosevelt National Foundation which he heads. Mr. Pearson's wreath was from the French people and came to U. S. on the Merci Train.

Members of the family present included Mr. and Mrs. John Roosevelt, Mr. and Mrs. Elliott Roosevelt and Franklin Roosevelt Jr.

Others attending the rites were Miss Frances Perkins. former secretary of labor: Robert P. Patterson, former secretary of war, Henry A. Wallace, vice president during Mr. Roosevelt's second and third terms. and Samuel Rosenman, also closely identified with the Roosevelt Administration.

Following the ceremony, Mr. Whitney had luncheon with the Roosevelt family.
