Full Text

It is somewhat remarkable, that the Commons have jumped over the anniversary of what is styled King Charles's Martyrdom, Sub silentio: in a profound silence. This is another manoeuvre of our young Minister, to trample upon all old revered customs of the people of Great-Britain; and seems to be a prelude to an attempt at expunging from our Calendars that memorable day, and the awful event which marks it. from our records and history. We differ widely from the Minister in this, as in many other particulars: We think it is a day that ought to be had in everlasting remembrance as a standing memento to Kings and Sovereigns of every denomination, to take care how they stretch prerogative too far above the limits prescribed by right and sound reason, so as to provoke the subjects to acts of desperation, fury and madness.

Why should not kings and their favorites have examples before their eyes, of stern justice overtaking their ranks, as well as their subjects? They are not infallible, more than other men.
