Full Text
A pilot program aimed at providing adequate and safe housing for villagers in remote parts of Alaska is a major aim of Sen. E. L. Bartlett.
The goal, said Bartlett, is to find a program "which will begin to meet the needs of the people in our Eskimo, Indian and Aleut villages."
Studies are under way to determine which villages would be eligible under Public Housing Administration (PHA) requirements and one community will be chosen for the initial demonstration, Bartlett said.
Results in that village will be used to formulate a program flexible enough to meet the varying needs of other villages.
Cooperating in the effort are the Alaska State Housing Authority, the PHA and the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
