Maine: Rumors of more troubles.
The Boston Courier of the 5th inst. says there were rumors in the city yesterday of recent outrages committed by the Provincial trespassers, and it is stated that an express from the Frontier had passed through Bangor for Gov. Fairfield's residence in Saco. We have nothing definite on the subject.
There are other rumors that a large armed force from the Province had marched on to the disputed grounds—this we believe to be only rumor, it is not likely after the negotiations and understanding between Gen. Scott and Sir John Harvey, that such a step would be taken by the Provincial government, unless some intrusions and outrages had been committed by the citizens of Maine.
'Tis true there has been border troubles in the way of burning barns, &c., these outrages are the works of lawless marauders of both countries acting without the sanction of authority.
