Correspondence of the Gazette.
MESQUITE, TEX., July 6.—A mass meeting of the business men of Mesquite and the farmers of this section was held here to-day. Hon. R. S. Kimbrough was chosen chairman and J. M. Knox secretary. The following were elected to the Dallas rate convention, viz: R. S. Kimbrough, G. B. Grass, J. C. Rugel, George W. Lewis, J. C. Bennet and E. P. Paschall. Other places near here have elected delegates.
No rain since the 4th inst. and prospect fair for good weather. Cotton worms, farmers report, are letting up on the young cotton, which makes the average farmer feel much better. Damage to wheat and oats has been considerable hard to tell how much.
