A pile of bones, picked clean, was all that was left of the republican Hearst combination in the city of New York. Our lamented friend Maximilian F. Ihmsen died early in the engagement. All that is left of him is a collar button, a bone and a tuft of hair. Wonderful politician and adroit manager is Charles F. Murphy. He has never lost a battle since he stepped into Croker's shoes and his enemies always have him on the run except on election day.
"Silent Charlie" they call him and today he is the masterful director of Gotham and the absolute boss of New York. He has whipped Hearst and his republican allies to a standstill, he has tamed Mayor McClellan and he has reasserted his power in Tammany Hall.—Dallas Times-Herald.
