The state convention of the Republican Party will convene today at 2 p. m. in Municipal Auditorium. The two-day confab will hear Sinclair Weeks, former secretary of Commerce, give the keynote address. Officers and delegates to the national convention will be chosen.
Four at-large delegates will be elected to attend the GOP convention in Chicago in July. Other business includes the adoption of rules under which the party will function next year.
Weeks will speak on the inner workings of the Republican Party.
The controversial school issue is expected to come up as it has been reported that an attempt to get the party on record as favoring open schools will be made.
The recent Fifth District convention last month saw enthusiasm over the party's Negro vote gain in recent years. Negroes of the Fifth District gave Republicans 31 per-cent of the party's total vote in the district in 1952, and 85 per-cent in 1956.
Convention credentials and admission badges will be given to delegates and alternates at roll call. Only those officials will be seated, however, there will be seating space for spectators.
Fulton County delegates and alternates will caucus at 1:30 in a corner of the auditorium.
