Benson Scouts Given Honors

Eight members of the Benson Boy Scout troop took two of the top three honors given last week at the Conservation Camporee at Camp Tuscarora. The honors were citations for excellency in signaling and for performance in first aid.

Attending the meeting were Jim Pritchard, Aaron McLamb, David Haller, Don Matthews, Keith Neighbors, Tommy Stephenson, Billy Johnson, and Alonzo Parrish III.

The youth received a blue ribbon for compiling a total of more than 250 points during the camp out of a possible 300.

Keith Neighbors, Alonzo Parrish, III, and Tommy Stephenson participated in the signal contest. They received a Morse code message signaled by flashlight from the top of a high pole and completed transcribing it in less than 20 seconds after completion of the sending, according to Scoutmaster Edgar Johnson Jr.
