COUNTY WILL WAR ON PEST
Eradication of camel thorn pest in infested areas of the valley received effective consideration from the board of supervisors yesterday when they entered into an agreement with the state department of agriculture to secure this end. According to the terms of the agreement which was signed by William Best as chairman of county board, the county agrees to set aside the sum of $2000 for camel thorn eradication. The state will also allocate a like sum for this purpose and this money is to be used under the joint supervision of the county agricultural commissioner and the state department of agriculture. The county further agrees to enter into a pact with persons or firms owning or controlling lands in or near the infected areas in the county that these persons will furnish value equivalent to the sums appropriated by both state and county either in the form of funds, materials or labor to be used in fighting this pest. In this manner, the agreement states, there will be formed a three-way plan of cooperation between the state, the county and the land owners for the furtherance of this eradication work.

The board also considered the importation of pheasants into the county to combat the grasshopper menace which in certain sections of the valley has caused much crop damage. A letter was received from the state division of fish and game to the effect that the first shipment of these birds will arrive soon.
