The Tazewell ASC county office has announced that the measuring of tobacco acreages for 1959 was started this week. According to Jim Sam Gillespie, chairman of the local committee, reporters are busy visiting farms in areas of the county. He reminds producers of their responsibility to assist the reporter and requests them to cooperate in getting this job done while the crop is small.
He also urges that all farm operators have someone available who is familiar with the crop and who can assist the reporter in the event he visits the farm during the operator's absence. An early completion of this work saves time and expense both to the county office and the farmer. Mr. Gillespie said. Producers who have overplanted are requested to contact the county office immediately on receipt of the excess notice since failure to notify the office within 10 days after the date of the notice may cause the loss of price support on the crop.
