Drainage project of 5 3/4 miles, which when finished will afford surface drainage for 4000 acres south of El Centro and which will prevent water from this district running into the city of El Centro is under way in road district No. 2, Imperial County CWA project No. 59.
This is but one unit in a project contemplated by Supervisor Hugh T. Osborne and which at present is being constructed under the supervision of P. A. Thaanum, foreman on location.
This project, states Osborne, matches the ratio of labor and materials required by CWA, and as rights of way are being secured, it makes possible the construction of a deep drainage system at a later time. After construction this surface system will be taken over and maintained by the Imperial Irrigation district.
The system under construction goes from the Dahlia canal 1 mile east to the Date canal on Eighth street, then north to within 1/2 mile of the city limits, turning east and crossing the Southern Pacific tracks. The entire project contemplated would include the whole town of Heber.
