CATCHING UP WITH DREAMS
By WILLIAM HENRY HUFF

I'm catching up with dreams I had
Upon my native crimson hills
When ragged as an ewe and sad
While overhead the whipperwills
Were plainly speaking out their name,
I almost hear them now - I pause.
Those birdies surely can declaim!
While they declaimed, I dreamed the dreams
Of things that now I plainly see;
They come to pass so fast it seems
That I must ask - how can it be?
Those dreams were legion then, galore
And never did they seem to pause.
One was that I would stand before
The Bar and plead the cause
Of those who sadly stood in need.
That dream has now come true
Now prejudice and hate and greed
I'm slowly breaking through.
