As we go to press, the supreme governing body of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen is naming its leaders for the next four years.
If the world would settle its problems and choose its leaders by free deliberations, followed by free elections, as do Brotherhood delegates and officers, who stem from two nations, wars would be no more.
There is something ennobling and inspirational in leaders coming before those who have honored them with the mantle of leadership, there to have their stewardship examined in open and free deliberations and discussions, finally to receive, if deserved, the award of approval in the form of reelection.
President W. P. Kennedy's stewardship stood the test of free men, and his reelection was unanimous.
Congratulations, President Kennedy! You have deserved and won the respect and confidence of your fellowmen.
Alongside you, others are chosen as Brotherhood leaders to assist you in carrying the great load that must always be carried by God-fearing, freedom-loving men. Your associate officers, too, receive our congratulations and acclaim.
To those whose terms of Brotherhood service have concluded, we express the sincere thought that the love and respect of Brotherhood members will abide with you, in the certain knowledge that you have been good and faithful servants; that from your lives a great and democratic organization has been given new strength and greater devotion to a worthy human cause; that in your retirement you will not be forgotten.
To the delegates and officers, past and present, we express the happy thought that people by the hundreds of thousands in Canada and the United States are grateful for your renewed demonstration of the vital truth that the democratic way is the only righteous way of human living.
