Willkie Blasts Demo Campaign; Flynn Naming Charge 'In' Machine Plans To 'Steal' Election

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., Aug. 14 (UP)—Wendell L. Willkie finished writing his acceptance speech today after a conference with Alf M. Landon had produced a personal blast at President Roosevelt for appointing Edward J. Flynn as Democratic national chairman.

Willkie and Landon yesterday joined in a charge that metropolitan Democratic political machines planned "to steal" the November election for the New Deal by "fraudulent voting."

The Republican presidential nominee took another whack at the Democratic organization for soliciting campaign handbook advertising from corporations. In keeping with Attorney General Robert Jackson's opinion that such practices are illegal, the Democratic national committee should immediately return $140,000 collected this year and $500,000 collected in the 1936 campaign, Willkie said.

If the refunds are not voluntarily made, Willkie said the corporations which contributed should sue the Democratic national committee.

"Even Boss Flynn will not sell or distribute the books now," he said in reference to Jackson's opinion that such activity was illegal under the amended "clean politics" act.

"Obviously the assumption that this advertising had any value disappears completely now that there can be no distribution of the books."

Willkie said he would have the acceptance speech he will deliver Saturday at Elwood, Ind., mimeographed today or tomorrow night at Indianapolis. He said he planned to stay in Elwood with members of his family Saturday night.

He also announced that he would make a campaign speech at Coffeyville, Kans., where he once taught school.
