Washington.
Oct. 14. President Wilson saved from the gallows Josephine Berry, a young negress under sentence to hang here tomorrow for the murder of another negro woman. President Her sentence was commuted to life.
No woman has been hanged in the District of Columbia since the execution of Mrs. Surratt in connection with President Lincoln's assassination.
