Editor Post-Intelligencer:
To learn the intentions of the Northern Pacific Railroad Company toward Seattle, we recently interviewed several of the Directors of their offices in New York. They all stated very emphatically that they were disposed to treat Seattle as liberally as Tacoma or any other points; that they were very anxious to complete the Cascade division at the earliest possible moment, and that it would be built through the Stampede Pass; that if the people of Seattle, or any railroad company would build to connection with the Cascade division, they would make liberal terms with them, and if this was not done, the Northern Pacific would extend the Cascade division to Seattle whenever there was sufficient business to warrant it.
They also stated that the earnings of the Northern Pacific for the year ending June 30th would be nearly $1,500,000 clear of running expenses and the interest on all obligations, and they intended to use this on the Cascade division. Their land sales also amounted to several million dollars. President Harris will soon arrive, and doubtless will explain their intentions in detail. The citizens of Seattle have an enviable reputation for unity of action. Let them welcome all railroads and capitalists, that the Queen City may soon lead every other north of San Francisco.
