Near Barterville, in the southern part of Nicholas county, Ky., within sight of each other, are the homes of two women whose ages aggregate 220 years. One is Mrs. Catherine Waggener, aged 111, and her sister-in-law, Mrs. Rebecca Waggener, aged 109 years. They are widows, and each has reared a large family of children, nearly all of whom are married, some of them having grandchildren, which would make these old ladies great-grandmothers. These remarkable women have never seen a railroad train nor a modern match and have lived for the past sixty-five years within a stone's throw of where they now live, and have not been in Carlisle, the county seat, for thirty-two years.
