Full Text

Atrocious Murder. A murder of the darkest dye was committed in Champlain last week.--The facts, as far as we can learn them, are these: Miss. Stevenson, a young lady about 17 years old, left her father's house to go to Champlain village, about two miles distant, on Wednesday of last week, for the purpose of purchasing some articles at the stores. She purchased the articles, and left for home about 3 o'clock in the afternoon. When night grew nigh, her friends, alarmed at her absence, proceeded to find her, and an ineffectual search was kept up until Wednesday of this week when she was found about five rods from the road leading to her home, with a handkerchief in her mouth, and her throat cut from ear to ear. No doubt exists as to the cause of the murder; but the villain who perpetrated it is yet unknown.--Plattsburg Rep.
