Peace or War.
There cannot be a doubt but that the result of the Gubernatorial Election in this state has had a very considerable effect in checking the war partizans at Washington, in their mad career. The Friends of Peace in Massachusetts will recollect, that though their exertions have been crowned with success as to Governor, still they have an important duty to perform in the choice of Representatives. Every man, without distinction of party, who is opposed to War and Embargoes ought to unite in the election of such men as have been uniformly opposed to these measures. There is every reason to believe that a large proportion of the democratic party are honestly and decidedly opposed to WAR and TAXES;—let such men reflect that by giving their votes for the advocates of Madison and Gerry, they virtu- ally vote in favor of embargoes, war, loans, and taxes. The writer of this article is a Mechanic, no seeker for office, and only wishes that the usual channels of business and trade may be opened again, that the sound of the hammer and mallet may be heard in our work shops.
