A MESSAGE.
I want to send a message
Into the City of Gold, :
I want to tell the old story
Sweeter than e're it was told.
The old story of love and longing
For the other self of my soul. :
Who is now within the Portal
Of the City I'm making my goal.
Oh I want to send a message
Far, far away from the earth,
Into the land of hereafter,
Where the Souls of our loved had their birth.
Can I send it forth on the Sunshine?
Can I breathe it out on the Air?
Are angels watching and waiting
To carry our messages there!
Shall I know when the answer cometh
From the beautiful home above?
That my darling has heard and welcomes
My longing and tears with her love?
Oh I would send a message
Far, far away from the Earth
Into the land of here after,
Where the Souls of our loved had their birth.
Send, send your message onward.
Your tears, your hopes, your prayer
And be sure your loved are waiting
To hear from you over there.
And list! oh list! for the answer,
It cometh to those who wait:
Who listen and long for a message,
From loved ones within the gate.
Then send, oh send your message,
'Twill go on the wings of love
Right in thro' the portals of Glory
To the home of loved ones above.
