On Tuesday was tried in the court of Common Pleas, Westminster, a cause in which Mr. Haynes, a farmer, was plaintiff, and the sheriff of a county was defendant. The action was this: A verdict having been given last term, in favour of Mr. Haynes, for 500l. from another farmer, the writ to recover the money was directed to the sheriff, who, from a persuasion that the debtor was a bankrupt, did not execute the same. On this action a verdict was found for the plaintiff, with 500l. damages, and costs of suit.
