Full Text

FIRE.

We regret to hear that the Dwelling House of E. B. Bentley, Esq., a short distance from this city, was destroyed by fire on Friday night last. The fire was discovered soon after it broke out, and it is believed that the house might have been saved, but for the artful precaution taken by the incendiary, to cut off the supply of water, by destroying the rope of the well in the yard, before he applied the torch. We have rarely heard of a more cool and deliberate act of villainy. It is to be hoped that the perpetrator may not escape detection and punishment.
