Lettuce shipments are still being made from the valley, despite the "gentleman's agreement" made Sunday to suspend shipments for the balance of the week. Commissioner Harrigan stating this morning that an effort is being made to clean up the lettuce which was ready for shipment at the time the agreement was made.
Harrigan estimated today that about 75 per cent of the Brawley shippers have discontinued and the major portion of the balance will do so tomorrow. In El Centro, Heber and Calexico, approximately 50 per cent have stopped shipping.
By tomorrow it is expected over 90 per cent of the shippers will discontinue shipments for the remainder of the week, Harrigan said. There is bound to be a certain percentage of shippers that will not abide by the agreement, he explained, though every effort will be made to have the shipments reduced to the minimum.
