Joel R. Poinsett, of South Carolina, Great Grand High Priest of Masonry, & Ambassador to Mexico from the United States :-It appears that this gentleman has interfered in the internal concerns of Mexico, and has in consequence been disgraced by them. We understand that he has been planting the seeds of Free-masonry in that country, by aiding and assisting in establishing lodges there. The fruits of this has been, a revolution and civil war in that country. In looking over a New York paper of May last, we find the following sketch of the revolution:

"Here a sudden and bloody revolution is effected in a free State, by an armed force, and entirely by the means of a sect of Freemasons, entitled Yorkinos--a sect planted there from this country, and at the installation of which our own Ambassador, Mr. Poinsett, is said to have officiated. It is truly appalling to the patriotic heart, that such effects should be brought about by such means in this enlightened age.

The Yorkinos, by means of their secret meetings and private signals, had matured their plans with such secrecy, that they carried and plundered the city of Mexico, banished the President and his council, and placed Guerrero at the head of the Government, before the least suspicion was entertained of their design.

Here we perceive another instance of the practical effects of Masonry."

Mr. Poinsett, it appears, has acted the same part in Mexico, that the French Ambassador, Citizen Genet, from Revolutionary France, did when he endeavored to sow the seeds of Illuminism and French Freemasonry in this country, and incited an insurrection in Pennsylvania, when an army was raised to quell it, and Washington appointed as Commander.

This insurrection is said to have cost the United States one million of dollars to suppress. Freemasons say, "they never interfere in the concerns of government," and that "they never meddle with politics." What an untruth !! Almost the only arguments that masons now make use of in defence of their institution is falsehood and slander, joined with secret intrigue--by laying all the plots imaginable to prevent the truth respecting their Order and deeds of darkness from coming before the people.-- By their frequent meetings in secret conclave, under cover of the darkness of night, with a tyler armed with a drawn sword "to keep off all cowans and eaves-droppers," they are enabled to mature plans and give information of all their dark designs, to their mystic brethren, from one end of the continent to the other. No plan, however ignoble; no act, however base, will be left untried to carry their secret, midnight schemes into effect, in order to stifle free inquiry, and crush Anti-masons. They act upon the principle of the Illuminati and Infidels of France, during their bloody revolution--that "the end justifies the means." Voltaire's motto is strictly adhered to, where he said in his attempt to crush Christianity: "Strike, but conceal the hand." In striking the blow at Morgan, the hand became visible, to the discomfiture and everlasting disgrace of the fraternity: as it is written--"He taketh the wise in their own craftiness."

The fact is, Freemasons dare not enter into any sound argument in defence of their cause. The truth is, their principles are so at variance with the spirit of free inquiry which so distinguishes this age of the world; that they dare not risk the issue by any thing like fairness in
The hoodwinked and cable towed gentlemen of the mystic tie, when hard-pushed by the sound arguments of the patriotic and independent yeomanry, and sons of freedom, respecting their horrid oaths and obligations, endeavor to modify them by saying, "we never took the oaths exactly as they are laid down by Morgan, and if we did it was not expected we should live up to them, and therefore you need not fear of having your throats cut." This hypocritical kind of reasoning may answer for a "poor blind candidate," who has sold himself and pledged his life to one of the most wicked, unprincipled, secret, midnight combinations that ever has obtained foothold among civilized people. We hazard an opinion, without fear of contradiction, that should the Anti-masonic cause gain ground for three years to come in the same ratio as it has done for three years past, the name of masonry will become a reproach and a by-word throughout the country. We mention as one of the signs or reason for the above opinion, that there is a masonic lodge in this place, of about 130 members, whose place of meeting is within a few cable-tow's length (literally speaking, say five rods) of this office, where they used to be in the habit (previous to the murder of their brother Morgan) of hoodwinking and catching by their cable-tow, at their monthly meetings, sometimes half a dozen novices at a haul; but since the news of the death of Morgan by the hands of the charitable brotherhood and "handmaid of religion," was currently believed, there has not been, to our knowledge, so many as one "poor blind candidate" to ballot for. We have good reason to believe we are correct, for had it been otherwise, some of the weak brethren would leak it out to some of the long eared Jack Editors who would blazon it forth to the public.

QUESTIONS FOR MASONS.

What is the reason that the kidnappers of Morgan, who have been convicted of that base crime, and some of them pled guilty to the charge preferred against them in open court, have not been expelled from the lodge by their worthy brethren, for unmasonic conduct?

Why is it that those men, many of whom are Ministers of the gospel in good standing--their veracity unimpeached-- of irreproachable characters-and held in high estimation by all classes, the moment they come out and disclose the truth and nothing but the truth, respecting the masonic institution, of which they have been members, and guilty of no crime, they are immediately expelled by their loving brothers for unmasonic conduct?

Is it not the reason that the kidnappers of Morgan have not been expelled by masons from their lodges, because they have acted agreeable to the "principles of the institution and the instructions of the fraternity? or, in other words, is not the masonic order, as a body, implicated in the forcible abduction and murder of Morgan?

Have not the Masonic fraternity used their utmost exertions to screen the guilty kidnappers and murderers of Morgan from being discovered and brought to the just punishment due such a horrid crime against the laws of God and our country, and have they not thrown every obstacle in the way of those who were endeavoring to find the bottom of this foul conspiracy.?
