Full Text

His Royal Highness the Duke of Cumberland observed an uniform regular method with his labouring people at Windsor; he never gave them more pay than others of the Nobility and Gentry in the neighbourhood, but rather less, as he said that would encourage other labourers to raise their wages; but this he sufficiently made up, by ordering them every day at noon table beer, bread and cheese, and generally twice a week a hot dinner gratis. This was what his Royal Highness called Old English Hospitality.
