Full Text
The operation of British influence in the United States may now be well understood: in Boston it appears that nearly one-third of the persons engaged in the foreign import and mercantile business are English agents! The proportion in New-York is about the same number. In Philadelphia the British agents and others registered as not citizens, in the regular office, amounts to fifteen hundred. (Of which it is found 1200 have voted at our elections, & have thus completely ruled our local affairs as if we were governed by an English Parliament.)
We see persons walking our streets every day notoriously emissaries to the British government—we saw a man on Saturday, who avowed to the writer of this article, that he had not come to the United States to become a citizen, and who keeps a regular journal of every man's business, but has no business of his own, and who by his habits and character, is particularly well adapted to act the part of a spy -Aurora.
