Mercy Killing and Suicide Followed By Father's Death
Woman Uses Gas to End Lives of Self, Child; Husband Follows
SAN MATEO, Cal., July 12. (UP)-The "mercy killing" of a mentally deficient 11-year-old boy and the simultaneous suicide of his mother had a tragic aftermath today when the husband and father ended his life in the same manner 24 hours after their bodies were found.

A motorist on the Skyline boulevard last night found the body of Andrew K. Dam, 35, slumped over the wheel of his modest automobile A hose led to the exhaust pipe.

Five miles away off the same highway another passerby had found the bodies of Mrs. Hazel Dam, 30, and 11-year-old Lloyd the previous evening. Their lives had been snuffed out by monoxide gas in the same modest automobile.

Last Sunday Dam had gone to Police Chief William Maher of nearby San Bruno to report that his wife and son were missing. The nurseryman related a tragic story of their concern for the welfare of their son.

Lloyd, he said, was so "mentally deficient he hadn't been able to attend school." Dam said he had come home from work Saturday noon to find his wife hysterical, trying to bathe Lloyd. He calmed his wife. They discussed placing the lad in a sanitarium.
