Volunteers.—The democratic papers are a day after fair in extolling the patriotism and magnanimity of voluntarily becoming cripples, in order that Mr. Madison may appear to be serious in the "armour and attitude" which he is taking: for the drafts have been gone through with. Perhaps, however, no evil will result from exciting this volunteer mania, for such as regret having let the precious moment slip, it is said many find opportunities of purchasing the right for a small compensation.
If it was "patriotic" or the Lynn shoemakers and some of the Oxford militia to offer their services to Mr. Madison, without going out of their respective towns, how much more so must it have been for Paddy who came all the way from Cork to this town for that purpose; and yet poor Paddy's "patriotism" is passed over in silence.
