Yellow Jackets Announce Grid Schedule; Va. State Here Nov. 8

INSTITUTE, W. VA. - West Virginia State College will open her eight game football schedule this Fall against Rio Grande, Ohio on the home ground October 4. Rio Grande is the first white school to be scheduled in football by the Yellow Jackets. Although on previous occasion the Jackets and the Dinosaurs have had athletic relations in basketball, tennis and softball and the relationship has always been good.

On Saturday, November 8 State will play a night game in Charleston against Virginia State. Virginia State is coached by Harry (Big Jeff) Jefferson, former coach at Bluefield State. This game should prove to be interesting as it brings together the two dominions in what has proved to be on previous occasions a battle royal on the gridiron. In all the Yellow Jackets will play four home games, one game in Charleston and three games out of the state.

At this very writing perhaps Head football coach A. P. Hamblin is worrying about the holes he will have to fill this Fall owing to graduation and the conscription act. Among those at this writing who will not be on the Jacket's team next fall are Burris, Webster and Brayboy, backs; Smoots and Coats, center; Grayson and Lynch, tackles and Stewart, end. It will be recalled that State's football team did not really shine until the close of season last year and the well wishers of State are hoping that the Jackets will get in the mood early this fall. The home games this Fall will be most interesting. After the Rio Grande game, the Jackets take on Lincoln (Pa) October 11; then A. and T. will journey up from North Carolina to play October 25, and on November 1 the Mountain State classic with Bluefield will be played. The annual Mid-West classic is scheduled to be played at Wilberforce this year; Wilberforce and State tied last Fall, 20-20 in what was considered State's best game against Wilberforce for many a season.

The Yellow Jacket's 1941 football schedule:
Oct. 4 - Rio Grande, O., at Institute.
Oct. 11 - Lincoln university, (Pa.) Lyons at Institute.
