HALSEY STREET CHURCH HONORED BY MANY PASTORS
Coming to Participate in Methodists Centennial to Continue One Week.
The Halsey Street Methodist Episcopal Church, which began its centennial celebration yesterday, will continue it for the remainder of the week. Bishop Dr. T. B. Neely, LL. D., delivered the sermon yesterday. In the afternoon the children held a rally, during which recitations and songs were given.
Tonight the services will be presided over by the Rev. Dr. George W. Smith, district superintendent. The Rev. Henry J. Johnston, Ph. D., pastor of the Franklin Street Church; the Rev. William Morgan, pastor, of the Central Church; the Rev. F. L. West, of the Eighth Avenue Church, and the Rev. Dr. Mead will speak.
Tomorrow night John P. Contrell, president of the board of trustees, will preside. The addresses will be made by former pastors, as follows: The Rev. Dr. James S. Chadwick, district superintendent, New York East Conference; the Rev. William Eakins, Palisade, Jersey City; the Rev. Dr. Charles W. McCormick, First Church, Hartford, Conn.; the Rev. Dr. Daniel Halleron, Washington, N. J.; the Rev. Jacob A. Cole, Orange; the Rev. Dr. Thomas I. Coultas, St. James's, Elizabeth. The Rev. Dr. Howard will preside at the interdenominational services Wednesday evening. The speakers will be the Rev. Dr. David R. Frazer, of the First Presbyterian Church; the Rev. Louis Shreve Osborne, of Trinity Episcopal Church; the Rev. Dr. James I. Vance, of the North Reformed Church, and the Rev. Dr. Thomas J. Villers, of the Peddie Memorial Baptist Church.
On Thursday night, "Laymen's Night," Dr. Henry L. Coit will preside. The following will speak: R. R. Doherty, Ph. D.; the Hon. James L. Hays, Morris S. Daniels, president of the City Church Extension Society; Benjamin W. Whitehead and William E. Drake, State Auditor.
Samuel M. Tunison, president of the Epworth League, will conduct the services on "Young People's Night," Friday. Sheriff Frank H. Sommer and the Rev. Dr. George P. Eckman, pastor of St. Paul's Church, New York, will speak.
The centennial will end next Sunday with the morning and evening services. Bishop Frank L. Bristol, D. D., LL. D., will preach the morning sermon and the Rev. Dr. Robert Forbes will speak in the evening on "Home Missions." Dr. Forbes is the corresponding secretary of the Board of Home Missions and Church Extension.
