THE subscriber informs the citizens of Portland and its vicinity, that he intends giving in Portland, a course of Lectures on the Elements of Botany. His course will embrace a full explanation of the classes, orders, genera and species of the Linnean System; together with a concise view of the Anatomy and Physiology of Vegetables, illustrated by specimens from nature. Some observations will also be made on the cultivation of plants. This course of instruction will be similar to that pursued by the celebrated Dr. Thornton of London, and comprise nearly thirty Lectures, a "Syllabus" of which will be put into the hands of each student.
Should a number of young ladies wish to constitute a class by themselves they can be accommodated at any place most convenient to them, and also have the privilege of attending the general course if they please as no pains will be spared to render the subject both interesting and intelligible he can confidently solicit patronage: if this be given, he shall commence his lectures about the middle of June next. Terms $8 dollars for the course
